Privacy Policy

Effective October 4, 2026

This policy explains what information Actual Recipe handles when you browse the site, create an account, save favorites, or use private recipe features.

Information collected

Account information. If you register, the site stores your display name, email address, authentication credentials, email-verification status, account role, account plan, any individual recipe-allowance adjustment, and related timestamps. Passwords are handled by the authentication system rather than stored as readable text.

Account activity and content. The site stores favorites associated with your account. If private recipe features are available to you, it also stores the recipes, ingredients, directions, notes, and other content you submit.

Private comments and publication. Private comments on public recipes are associated with your account and are visible only to you through the site. Publication submissions store a recipe snapshot, chosen public author name, review history, and reviewer feedback. Authors and moderators/admins can view submitted snapshots and feedback; private comments are not included.

Billing and retention. We store Stripe customer and subscription identifiers, subscription status and dates, billing-policy acceptance, which recipes you choose to keep, deletion deadlines, and notice-delivery timestamps. Payment card and bank details are entered with Stripe/Link and are not stored in our database.

Kitchens. If you create or join a Kitchen, the site stores its name, membership and role information, shared-recipe relationships, and invitations. Invitations include the recipient's email address, inviter, expiration, and acceptance or revocation status.

Technical and security information. Sessions may include an IP address, browser or device information, expiration time, and security tokens. The site also processes information needed to detect abuse, apply rate limits, verify registrations, and reset passwords.

Information from ordinary browsing. Hosting providers may receive standard request data such as IP address, browser details, requested pages, and timestamps when the site is visited.

How information is used

Information is used to provide and maintain the site, authenticate accounts, save favorites and private content, calculate and enforce account allowances, operate Kitchen sharing and invitations, send account and invitation messages, prevent abuse, troubleshoot problems, respond to requests, and comply with legal obligations.

Actual Recipe does not currently use personal information for targeted advertising and does not sell or rent personal information.

Cookies and browser storage

The site uses necessary authentication cookies to keep signed-in users connected securely. It stores your light or dark theme choice in your browser's local storage.

Registration and password recovery may use Cloudflare Turnstile to distinguish people from automated abuse. Turnstile may process browser, device, and network information for that purpose. Actual Recipe does not currently use advertising or audience-tracking cookies.

When information is shared

Cloudflare provides hosting, database, email-delivery, network-security, and Turnstile services for Actual Recipe. Information is processed by Cloudflare as needed to provide those services under its Privacy Policy.

Stripe and Link process payment and subscription information when you use billing features. We associate a Stripe customer identifier with your account and receive subscription events to manage access and retention. Your payment and billing details are subject to Stripe's Privacy Policy. Recipe content is not sent to Stripe.

If you deliberately submit a recipe and it is approved, its reviewed contents and chosen author name become public and searchable. Private ingredient names included in that recipe become public as part of the approved copy; private ingredient records and private comments remain private.

Information may also be disclosed when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect the site or its users, investigate abuse, or respond to a valid legal request. If operation of the site is transferred, relevant information may transfer with it subject to this policy.

Retention and security

Account information, favorites, and private content are generally retained while an account remains active or as needed to provide the requested feature. Sessions, verification records, and rate-limit records expire or are removed when they are no longer needed. Some records may be retained longer when required for security, legal compliance, or backup integrity.

After paid access ends, recipes above your free allowance are scheduled for permanent deletion after a 30-day grace period. Account shows which recipes are kept and the deadline. You may change the selection, export recipes, or resubscribe before deletion. Editing does not extend the deadline. Notices are sent before automatic deletion; delayed notices postpone deletion. Deleted recipes are removed from the active database together with their ingredient relationships, favorites, and Kitchen shares. Backup copies may remain until ordinary backup retention expires.

Reasonable safeguards are used to protect information, but no internet service or storage system can guarantee absolute security.

Approved public copies and review history are separate from private originals. Deleting a private original, ending paid access, or deleting an account does not automatically remove an approved public recipe or its attribution. Contact us to request removal or correction. Account deletion removes private comments; unpublishing a recipe leaves comments stored so they can return if the recipe is republished.

Your choices

You may browse public recipes and articles without creating an account. You can remove favorites and, where available, edit or delete your private recipes through the site.

To request access to, correction of, or deletion of account information—or to close an account—email the address below from the email associated with the account when possible. Identity may need to be verified before a request is completed. Some information may be retained where legally permitted or required.

Children's privacy

Actual Recipe is not directed to children under 13, and children under 13 may not create an account. If you believe information from a child under 13 has been collected, please make a deletion request using the contact information below.

Changes and contact

This policy may be updated as the site changes. Material revisions will be reflected by a new effective date on this page.
