Working With Coffee Pods That Aren't Your Favorite
Posted on: 26 March 2021
Everyone has their own preferences when it comes to coffee. Some like a dark roast and others like a light roast. Sometimes you may end up with some coffee pods that contain coffee that is not your favorite. Perhaps you bought them to try when they were on sale, or maybe you bought them for someone else who has since moved. In either case, it's perfectly good coffee, so it's a shame to let it go to waste simply because it's not your favorite. Here are some ways to elevate it and use it anyways.
Make some mocha
Mocha, as a drink, is basically a mixture of coffee and hot chocolate. It's really easy to make when you have a coffee maker that uses coffee pods. Just pour a packet of hot chocolate mix into a mug, and brew your coffee into that mug. For a little extra richness, you can add a splash of milk or cream. With the chocolate flavor, the coffee won't be that prominent, so you really won't notice whether it's your favorite coffee or not.
Create an iced coffee
Often when you chill coffee down and make iced coffee, the resulting beverage has a different balance of flavors than hot coffee would have had. The chill masks some flavors that were really prominent when the coffee was hot. In other words, a coffee that's not your favorite when hot may actually be your favorite when cold. The easiest way to make iced coffee with coffee pods is to prepare the coffee in a mug, as usual. Stir in any sugar you like. Then, let the coffee cool in the fridge. Once it's pretty cool, pour it over ice, and add milk if desired.
Add cinnamon
Adding cinnamon is an age-old trick that people used to use when brewing not-so-great coffee in their drip coffee makers. It can work for coffee that's not your favorite, too. The cinnamon dulls some of the more acidic notes in coffee, which is often what people are not a fan of. It also adds a hint of cinnamon flavor that makes the coffee more appealing overall. Just add a pinch of cinnamon to your mug, brew the coffee into it, and proceed with adding cream and sugar as usual.
If you have coffee pods that you don't love, don't throw them away. As you can see, there are some delicious ways to use coffee that's not quite to your taste.
