Two Situations in Which You Should Buy Alcoholic Beverages from a Liquor Store Instead of Online

Posted on: 30 July 2020

Whilst there are times when buying your liquor online can be very convenient, there are also lots of situations in which it is better to buy it in a brick-and-mortar liquor store. Here you'll find some situations that might call for a trip to your local liquor store.

1. You need to buy alcohol for a party

If you need to buy alcohol for a party, then you should buy these drinks in person at a store. The quality of the liquor you serve will influence how good the party is. If you go to a liquor store, its owner can help you to select the right drinks for your event.

For example, if you're planning your son or daughter's surprise 30th birthday party, then you should get a second opinion. In this scenario, the liquor store owner could show you the alcoholic beverages that are favored by lot by their younger customers (such as flavored gins and prosecco), and help you to avoid buying drinks which you, as an older person, might assume young people like but which are not that as popular with younger demographics anymore (such as pre-mixed sugary vodka concoctions). This would not only ensure that your adult child and their friends enjoy the drinks served at the party but would also mean that after the party is over, you won't be left with cases of beverages that neither you nor anyone you know wants to consume.

2. You want to give someone a gift of a rare bottle of wine or whiskey

If you want to give someone a rare bottle of wine or whiskey as a gift on a special occasion, then it would be best to buy this in person at a liquor store. If you do this, then you'll know for certain that it is genuine. Conversely, if you bought it online from some random seller, the risk of it being a fake would be higher. This matters not only because you will probably spend quite a lot on this item but also because giving someone a supposedly-rare gift that turns out to be a fake could be embarrassing.

Secondly, if you buy it at a liquor store, the chances of the bottle breaking before you can give it to the gift recipient will be lower than if you had ordered it online. Even when packaged properly, glass bottles that are ordered online can shatter if the delivery drivers are not careful or if any accidents occur whilst they're driving.

Whilst discovering that, for example, some inexpensive bottles of beer you ordered online got smashed during transit might not be a big deal, realizing that a rare bottle of wine or whiskey was lost could be disappointing. By buying it from a liquor store and ensuring that you are careful with it while traveling to the recipient's home, it will be much more likely to be intact when you give it to them.
